The festival

The Hague Film Festival is open for submissions now!

The Hague Film Festival invites all film and video makers to submit their work for the 6th edition of our event. We’re looking for both upcoming talents as established makers to send in their work in one of our eight categories ranging from feature film to music video and from documentary to vlog. The festival aims to showcase the broad spectrum of film and video creation today.

There is one new category added to this year’s edition:  ‘Experimental’

The theme of 2023 is Mafia.

Categories

documentary

A documentary is a non-fictional motion picture intended to "document reality, primarily for the purposes of instruction, education or maintaining a historical record. No restrictions on length

MUSIC VIDEO

A music video is a video of variable length that integrates a music song or music album with imagery that is produced for promotional or musical artistic purposes No restrictions on length

FOREIGN FILM

A Short or a Feature made by a filmmaker, not from the Netherlands No restrictions on length

ANIMATION

An animated film is either a short film or a feature film featuring an exaggerated visual style. No restrictions on length

A feature film has a run-time greater than 40 minutes long. This year we are staying to the length defined by The Academy.

SHORT

A film with a run-time shorter than 40 minutes

VLOG

A vlog is a form of blog for which the medium is video. No restrictions on length

Experimental

Experimental movies, are films that push the boundaries of conventional filmmaking. These films are often characterized by their departure from traditional narratives and methods of storytelling. Experimental filmmakers may use unconventional techniques in editing, visual effects, and narrative structures. They might play with abstract visuals, non-linear timelines, or even omit a clear storyline altogether. No limit for length.
